Yesterday I had the chance to have coffee with one of my friends and neighbors. . .it's a fairly regular occurrence, and I get to participate more now that I’m not working outside the house. I enjoy the time to relax and catch up and get some good advice from these other moms. . .
but a special part of the ritual for me - is that is reminds me of my childhood. . .some of my earliest memories are of going with my mom to my great grandmother's house for coffee in the mornings. i had the luxury of growing up with a good deal of family right next door to each other - and my mother, my grandmother, and her sister (my great-aunt) would have coffee.
Nothing fancy - everyday Corelle impressions and and probably some sort of snack . . . the coffee was from a can - and there was milk or juice for me. but what I remember most is them sitting around and sharing stories and catching up - like a secret club . . . they talked about the family, TV shows, their homes, what projects they were working on . . . sharing parts of themselves with each other over cups of coffee . . .
so when I find myself sitting in my friend's kitchen, sharing stories and talking about current events . . . part of me is transported back in time. . .
