Diagnosing anemia is a process that has several steps. Iron supplements can sometimes cause abdominal discomfort or constipation (iron glaciate may be less irritating to the stomach and less likely to cause constipation than iron sulfate). These symptoms can be diminished by taking your supplements at mealtime or by suing timed release tablets. However, either of these strategies will slow down your treatment somewhat since you’ll end up absorbing less iron from the supplements than you would if you took regular (not timed-release) tablets between meals.
